he Federal Land Development Authority
(FELDA) is one of the government organisations which focus on agriculture. In Tenggaroh, oil palm plantation is the main farming activity here. The entry of settlers in FELDA Tenggaroh Satu in 1982 has given opportunity for them to carry out agricultural activities that have been carried out by them since for generations.
Oil palm trees are picked twice a month which is once in every two weeks. For each hectare of land, farmers can pick oil palm fruits up to approximately two to three tons. Last time, farmers received RM600.00 for each ton of their total yield but now, for each ton farmers only receive around RM200.00. However, it is not a barrier for them to continue to be farmers as it is their way of life since a long time ago. There are also those who pass the occupation down to their children.
In 2006, oil palm trees are planted here for the first time. To help farmers before they are able to pick the oil palm fruits, FELDA gives approximately RM1200.00 to villagers as income allowance. The oil palm trees take around five years before they can be picked.
