Kampung Asam Kumbang area was formerly a vast oil palm plantation, and it had been the focal point for the surrounding villagers to engage in oil palm harvest. However, as some of these planters lived quite far from this plantation area, they had decided to search for a new settlement nearby. The origin of its name was from Roselle tree, which grew wildly all over the settlement area. The settlers who opened the settlement had unanimously agreed to name their new village as Kampung Asam Kumbang in view of the abundance of these plants in their area.
