griculture sector needs transformation in order to become a modern, better commercialised and highly competitive sector. The fertile soil of Kampung Permatang Duku becomes the main factor for the keen interest in agricultural activities by the villagers.
The primary plantation in Kampung Permatang Duku is the oil palm plantation. An estimated of 182 hectares of land are used for oil palm plantation. The villagers privately own most of the lands. Ripe oil palm fruits are usually picked by respective planter and then sold to the nearby oil palm factories. Sometimes the factories will send their lorries to pick up the oil palm fruits.
A small number of villagers plant banana, tapioca and sugar cane in their farms. Most of the products are sold to traders around the village and Pekan Benut. With the diversity of agricultural products in Kampung Permatang Duku, the government’s intention of uplifting the rural agriculture sector to become an important industry will finally be realised.
