ujak Hussin is also involved in catfish and leech breeding in small volumes. He began getting involved in the business since 2008 in his backyard. He is also assisted by his child in routine feeding and management of the livestock.
For the leeches, he built a few cement ponds for his leeches. Usually breeders would put kiambang flowers in the pond to ease the breeding of leeches. Leeches are fed once every fortnight. The leech breeding process is easy and the returns motivate him to expand his business one day.
Other than leeches, he also breeds approximately 37,000 catfish in canvas ponds built in his backyard. The catfish market always enjoys good demand. Usually, matured catfish would be sold in markets and food shops around Pontian and Johor Bahru. Catfish goes for RM 3.50 to RM 4.00 per kilo according to the market.
The diversity and bravery of Sujak Hussin in trying his hand in many fields of work is indeed a noble effort that could be emulated by other villagers. His interest and dedication is undoubtable and he always tries something new if given the chance.
