Kampung Serkat was founded by Dato’ Nakhoda Mentol who came from Batu Bera, Sumatera. In the past, pirates would stop at this village when there is high flow of wave that normally disrupts their journeys. As they are blocked from continuing their journey, they will take the opportunity to steal from the locals. From this incident, the village was then named Kampung Serkat. Most of the residents here were originally from Kersang, which is located in Muar who are Bugis descendants.
