Previously, people of Nanga Jagau lived in Ulu Sungai Ngemah. However, in 1973, Sarawak State Government through the authorities of Rajang Area Security Command (RASCOM) which was based in Bandar Sibu directed them to move to a newly built residential area. The people had to be transported to several residential areas in Jagau, Nanga Bulok, Nanga Ngungun and Nanga Pasai as Ulu Sungai Ngemah was frequently attacked by the communist. Due to the relocation, at present there are 24 long houses in the Relocation Scheme Nanga Jagau.
