Kompang is one of the traditional Malay musical instruments which belong to the group of drums. Normally played during weddings and celebrations, this musical instrument originatedcame from the Arab countries before it was brought to the Malay Peninsula by the Muslim Indian merchants during the era of the Malaccan Sultanate. Perusahaan Hamid Sekeluarga has started the business of kompang production since 15 years ago. Initially ran on small scale, the business has developed and created more job opportunitiesy for the local residents. The making of kompang takes a lot of perseverance and skills. To produce a good quality kompang, the Halban wood or Vitex Pubescens is used. This traditional instrument is tagged at prices ranging from RM15.00 to RM40.00 depending on its size.
