ajority of Pulau Aur inhabitants are born as fisherman, however, ever since Pulau Aur was announced as National Marine Park in 1994, the coastal fishermen’s activity has limited to two nautical miles from the seashore. This has forced the fishermen to change their lifestyle to tourism industry.

The Department of Marine Park has been given the responsibility for the lifestyle change of Pulau Aur inhabitants from fisherman to tourism industry. Since they are the enforcers to the ecosystem balance in Pulau Aur, the Department of Marine Park also ensure the fisherman profession changes are done in a regulated and beneficial to all society in this amazing Pulau Aur.
