Funeral Management Course
Rompin Community Development Department (KEMAS) in collaboration with Kampung Leban Chondong Village Development and Security (JKKK) had organised a Funeral Management Course on 24 June 2012. According to Zaliha Mohd Yunos, Library Assistant of Leban Chondong Rural Library, 35 residents including youth and teenagers had attended the course which was held at Leban Chondong Mosque. She had recommended to the JKKK to organise the course in order to give the villagers an opportunity to learn the techniques of funeral management. The course was conducted by Ustaz Abdul Malik, KEMAS officer, who demonstrated methods in bathing the dead body, shrouding and funeral prayer. Typically, a briefing which outlined the necessary things to do in the event of a death in the community would be given at the start of the course.
The participants were shown the proper steps to manage the funeral during the course, including the burial process which was delivered orally. In fact, they were given the opportunity to ask any question during the question and answer session so as to get a clearer answer. According to Zaliha, such course should be conducted even though it had been conducted before because the guidance and techniques in funeral management, unknown to many Muslims, represented Fardu Ain. In addition, it aimed to provide the community members with the confidence to undertake the task in the event of a death in the community in the future. Aside from Kampung Leban Chondong residents, the course was attended by people from nearby villages such as Kampung Rantau Panjang, Kampung Gading, Kampung Bangkong and Kampung Tebu Hitam. The course ended with the certificates of participation presentation by the organiser to all the course participants. (KK15: 17 July 2012 – By: Rohaya Priman)
